Crater Lake Blue
Milk: Cow, Pasteurized
Accompaniment: Bolder red and sweet desserts
This cheese is one of our bolder blue cheeses, but it is much more than just that. Crater Lake Blue is a recent addition to the blue cheese line up made by Rogue Creamery in Oregon (yes, the company also owns the brewery). What makes it unique and probably contributed to its winning the 2004 Gold Medal in the American Cheese Society’s Annual Awards, is that it has a perfect balance between salt, blue and the intrinsic milk flavors. Named after the Lake with its vibrant blue-green tones, this cheese can be combined with bolder reds and sweet dessert wines alike. You can also try it with a hoppy ale and be impressed with the flavor patterns that developes.
